October Small Group Meetings

Freshmen, you all did an AMAZING job on four year plans. Congratulations! Now that that’s a wrap, it’s time to move on to the next advising beast: SPRING REGISTRATION! At October Small Group Meetings, we’ll answer burning questions such as:

  • What is spring registration going to be like?
  • How do I get rid of this registration hold on my account?
  • Should I stay with my current Origins/Science faculty member or switch things up?
  • Are college students still allowed to trick-or-treat?
  • [Insert your non-personal, generalizable question about basically anything here]

Please RSVP for a small group meeting here. Small group meetings are first-come, first-served and they’re small (duh), so don’t procrastinate! We’ll be holding meetings in the club room on Foggy on:

Monday, 10/19 4PM
Wednesday, 10/21 4PM
Thursday, 10/22 3PM
Friday, 10/23 10AM

Friday, 10/23 12PM

Four Year Plan Deadline Coming Soon

Don't be late for this very important date!
Don’t be late for this very important date!

Freshmen! This is your last chance to go over your four year plans with Catherine before registration! Catherine’s availability rapidly diminishes, because she’s meeting with every single freshman in the UHP, so you’d better reserve your appointment time now.

Make your 30 minute appointment with Catherine right now.

Four year plans, when finished, should be full of actual courses with departments and course numbers (HONR 1015), not general categories of requirements (math, concentration, Arts & Humanities).

Four Year Plan(ning)

We're sorry, could you please clarify Step 2?
We’re sorry, could you please clarify Step 2?

Freshmen! If you’re not working on your four-year plan, don’t put it off! You’ve got until October 25th to have a complete four year plan and a 30 minute appointment with Catherine before you register for courses.
Four year plans, when finished, should be full of actual courses with departments and course numbers (HONR 1015), not general categories of requirements (math, concentration, Arts & Humanities).
Of course, you can always make appointments to help you on your way as you finalize your four year plan (for now, at least!)

Freshmen: Honors Advising Workshop Follow-Up

Are you a freshman who missed the Honors Advising Workshop last Friday? Make a 15-minute appointment with Catherine as soon as possible to cover what you missed.
For those who attended, we hope you’ll all remember the words of the Honors faculty as you consider your goals for your time at GW, and Catherine will be meeting with you all in your Origins discussion sections soon to discuss setting goals and making a four year plan!
Here are some things you can do right now to keep you on the right track:

  1. Read through your Student Handbook (PDF)
  2. Check out the bio page of at least two Student Peer Advisors (SPA)
  3. Sign up for the Honors hike at Theodore Roosevelt Island
  4. If you haven’t met your school advisor yet, make an appointment
  5. Stop by office hours for at least ONE of your Honors professors

Freshmen: Go to Honors Advising Workshop

Hello Honors freshmen!  The best way to start your college experience is by knowing what to expect (and what’s expected of you!) That’s why we’re having an Honors Advising Workshop on Friday, August 30th from 2-4pm in Ames B101 (on the Mt. Vernon Campus).
At the HAW we’ll cover all the basics — what your professors expect from you, what you can expect from your Honors courses, how to maintain good standing in the Honors Program, and more.  Plus, you’ll get to meet faculty, staff, and the Student Peer Advisors! We’ll also have some super sweet, exclusive Honors gear for you. You’ll love it!

We thought you might feel this way.
We thought you might feel this way.

If you have to miss it (and we know some of you will), then the best thing to do is make an appointment with Catherine to catch up on what you missed (and get your free Honors gear.)
