Holocaust Remembrance and Genocide Awareness Week [Recommended Event]

Check out these events as part of GW Hillel, Kappa Alpha Psi, and SAFI’s Holocaust Remembrance and Genocide Awareness Week. The events will serve as a memorial to victims of the Holocaust, allow students of all backgrounds to take an active role in remembering the many victims of the Holocaust, and heighten awareness of genocide across the world.
The three events of the week will be:
Name Reading in Kogan Plaza – Monday, April 8th from 1pm-4pm in the mid-campus quad section of Kogan Plaza.  Students will have the opportunity to read the names aloud of those individuals who perished in the Holocaust.
Memorial Service – Monday, April 8th in Marvin Center Room 308 from 6:00pm-7:30pm.  A 10-15 minute memorial service will be held in honor the victims followed by a Holocaust survivor’s story.
Panelist Discussion – Wednesday, April 10th in Marvin Center Room 413-414 from 7pm- 8pm.  Panelists will discuss the Holocaust, issues in human rights, and contemporary genocide.  The last 15 minutes will be open to questions from the audience.  Dinner will be provided.

"The Tibetan Code of Happiness" – [Recommended Event]

This Thursday (April 4th), Khenpo Sodargye of the Laung Gar Buddhist academy in China will give a talk titled “The Tibetan Code of Happiness.” The talk will take place at GWU’s Dorothy Betts Marvin Theatre, Marvin Center (800 21st Street NW), 6:30pm. Khenpo Sodargye is one of the leading Tibetan Buddhist teachers in China. He is a published scholar and popular speaker in leading universities on the mainland. The Very Model of a Roman Woman Warrior [Recommended Event]

Come attend Professor Judith P. Hallett’s lecture, ” The Very Model of a Roman Woman Warrior,” on April 11th.  There will be a reception at 6 p.m., with the lecture at 6:30 in Funger Hall 103.  Professor Hallett (UMD) will be discussing contemporary Roman Republican and later Imperial images of Fulvia, the formidable second wife of Roman general and politician Mark Antony and the venomous enemy of Cicero.

Prof. Hallett is a dynamic lecturer who is well known in the US and England for her expertise in Roman literature and culture, especially Latin love elegy, and as a faculty member at the University of Maryland, she is our neighbor as well. Her lecture “The Very Model of a Roman Warrior” will focus on the formidable Fulvia, second wife of the Roman general and political leader Mark Antony– Prof. Hallett has provided a vivid image for the poster that pungently illustrates the provocative nature of her persona to a 19th-century artistic imagination!

UHP, Camp Kesem GW, and GW Club Cross Country [Event]

Check out Camp Kesem GW and GW Club Cross Country’s Caterpillar Crawl!
Join UHPers Kimya Forouzan, Brittany Harvey, Sydnee Fielkow, Shailly Gaur and many many others on March 23rd at 10:30 am to kick off cherry blossom season with a Campus Recreation sponsored 6K on the National Mall. 
Registration will be $15 and all proceeds will go towards Camp Kesem GW, a free one-week summer camp for the children of cancer patients.
Stop by Kogan Plaza after the race for a barbecue with food and music for all racers and their friends!  This 6K also offers points for all Greek organizations and kicks off the Campus Rec Cup – a three part series extending from March to late April.
Come out to support a great cause, see the cherry blossoms, and enjoy some food with your fellow UHPers!
