Research Days 2015

Heya, I’m Michelle, a geography major with minors in Sustainability and GIS.  Last April, I presented a poster at GW’s Research Days. I did research on Agroforestry the previous summer as part of a field studies program in Costa Rica. Before the big day, there were a couple of workshops hosted by the Center for Undergraduate Fellowship and Research about how to put a poster together and how to present my work to the people who pass by. Those were so helpful that they answered questions I didn’t even know I had and made it so I knew what to expect.
Research Days is held in the Marvin Center ballrooms. That morning, I set up my poster at my assigned spot, grabbed a complimentary breakfast pastry, and looked around at the other posters before the judging began. And let me tell you, students at GW have done some really interesting research! It was cool to hear about the full spectrum of academic inquiry and have a chance to share what I have done with others.
If you’ve done a research project or are working on one, Research Days is a great chance to jump in and present about it. It is pretty casual, (you should probably still wear business clothes) but is perfect practice for other types of environments where you might be asked to present.
Michelle is in her last semester at GW. She’s celebrating this by taking a lighter course load, visiting all the places she’s failed to see in the last three years, and writing blog posts for the UHP.
Research Days are March 31 and April 1; abstracts are due March 1. Find out how to apply and more information here {link to this http://research.gwu.edu/research-days-2015]
