“Caged In: DC Painters Explore the Aesthetic Influences of John Cage,” curated by UHPer Roxanne Goldberg, opens with a reception this Thursday, September 19 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Gallery 102 in Smith Hall of Art, 801 22nd St. NW.
Stop by for some free food and a fantastic opportunity to meet the DC-based artists who created these exceptional works of art based on a recording of the John Cage 25-Year Retrospective, famously performed at the NYC Town Hall in 1958.
The exhibition is open until October 4 and features a panel discussion (in addition to Thursday’s reception) on Wednesday, October 2 at 6:30 PM. UHP student Roxanne Goldberg will be moderating this panel discussion with Executive Director of the John Cage Trust Laura Kuhn, Co-Director of the Centennial John Cage Festival Washington, DC Steve Antosca and Black Mountain College Scholar Kate Markoski.
A full color catalog has been published along with this exhibition and may be viewed in the gallery.
