About

As one of the world’s largest industries, tourism can contribute to social good, generate income for people with few alternatives and provide rural and urban communities with the economic incentive to protect their natural and cultural heritage.

For 25 years, the International Institute of Tourism Studies has been a global leader in tourism education and research using a three-tiered approach:

  • Collaboration: Through professional partnerships, research and onsite consultations, we provide businesses, communities, governments and nonprofits with the guidance and information they need to develop a sustainable industry—one that balances the needs and interests of visitors with the economic and environmental realities of destinations worldwide.
  • Education: Our certificate programs are customizable and prepare professionals at all phases of their careers with skills and knowledge to advance in destination management, event management, cultural heritage tourism and sport philanthropy.
  • Research: In collaboration with The George Washington University’s Master’s of Tourism Administration program, we offer students practical experience in research and consulting projects with international and domestic partners including the U.S. National Parks Service, the Organization of American States and the United Nations World Tourism Organization.
