Biomedical Engineering Students are Designing a Product to Help Blind Children Play Basketball

Students in Biomedical Engineering are working to design a means for children with blindness and low-vision to play basketball.

The main problems are detecting the basketball’s movement in the air and location of the basketball hoop. The George Washington University Biomedical Engineering Senior Capstone Team is working to improve the safety and enjoyment of people with blindness or low-vision in the game of basketball (while completing their capstone graduation requirement). The team will be working to produce a product that will benefit the individuals with visual impairments who want to play basketball.

The capstone professor is Nathan Choe, PhD, and he is working with the IMAGE Center of Maryland, a nonprofit that matches the needs of disabled people with engineers.
