Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of faculty and students on the DCSCEP Organizing Committee. Authors will be notified of decisions by March 31, 2024, via email.
About the Conference
DCSCEP is a graduate student-organized, one-day evaluation conference based in the Washington, DC region. Our goal is to provide graduate and other post-secondary students in the fields of evaluation and policy an opportunity to present original research and network with professionals and faculty in those fields.
Attendance at the conference is open to all graduate students, but student poster and paper presentations are reserved for students currently enrolled at, or recently graduated from (within 1 year), DC Consortium colleges and universities.
Conference Schedule
Below is a high-level overview of the 2024 DCSCEP program schedule (subject to change):
- 9:30 am – 10:30 am: A keynote address by Dr. Bagele Chilisa, Professor at the Department of Educational Foundations, University of Botswana
- 10:45 am – 12:00 pm: Concurrent poster presentations of student research
- 12:30 pm – 1:45 pm: 60 min moderated panel discussion with 15 minutes Q&A session
- 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm: Concurrent paper presentations of student research
Presentation Formats
Poster presentations: The poster option allows presenters to visually display ideas, concepts, results, etc. from their papers. The poster presentation format allows for informal discussion and interaction. Poster presenters are expected to prepare a single PowerPoint slide designed as a research poster for a 5-minute presentation.
Paper presentations: Presenters will have 10–12 minutes to present each paper and a brief period of 3–5 minutes to address questions from conference participants. Paper presenters are expected to prepare 10–15 PowerPoint slides for a 10-minute presentation.
General Proposal Guidelines
All papers are to be authored and presented by students. Co-authored work is allowed, but the student should have a large/primary role in the project. Presentations can be oriented in evaluation/policy toward:
- Any domain of practice – education, health, social work, etc.
- Any discipline – psychology, political science, education, etc.
- Any methodology – empirical, conceptual, theory, analytical, etc.
- Any focus – process, methodology, theory, utilization, etc.
Proposal Submission Format
Students will first submit contact information, author details, proposal abstracts and presentation preference in the online form.
Author Details
Title of proposal; main author’s name, e-mail address, and telephone number; co-author names and affiliation; and indication of presentation format preference (paper session or poster session).
Proposal
The proposal must be 300 words or less (the title is not included in this number). Submissions should include the title of the proposal, significance of the study or evaluation work, objectives, relevance to the conference themes, perspectives or theoretical framework, methods and/or techniques, results, and conclusions. We recommend that you type out your proposal beforehand in a Word document, based on the call for proposals outline. This will be a way to safeguard your information and allow you to copy it into the submission form.
Deadline for Proposal Submission
The deadline for proposal submission has passed. Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of faculty and students on the DCSCEP Organizing Committee. Authors will be notified of decisions by March 31, 2024, via email.
Note for Presenters
This is a virtual conference that will be hosted on Zoom. Presenters are responsible for having the technological equipment to access the conference and present their work. Although authors should indicate their preference for presentation format, the Abstracts Committee may choose to accept your presentation under a different format.
American Sign Language Interpreting Services
The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) will have American Sign Language Interpreting Services (ASL) on standby at the conference and will be available upon request.
