Building Sustainable, Resilient and Equitable Future
Worldwide Teach-In on Climate and Justice:
March 30th, 4-7pm, Virtual Webinar

To capitalize on the current momentum toward building a sustainable, resilient, and equitable future, the University of the District of Columbia (UDC) is planning to participate in the worldwide teach-in on climate justice. On March 30, 2022, UDC, in collaboration with DC area universities, is organizing a virtual webinar to discuss climate justice, equitable global solutions, and more. Organized in three sections, this event will bring together students, faculties, and all other participants for a live stream panel and zoom meeting. Each session will involve lightning speeches lasting only 5 minutes in length followed by a brainstorming and Q&A session.


Session 1, 4-5PM: Building Climate Resilience and Community Engagement: Learning from Experts

  • Climate Solutions and Community Engagement (Dr. Kamran Zendehdel, Acting Director of CSD + Resilience)
  • Building equitable and resilient built environment and gentrification (Dr. Elizabeth Gearin, Project Specialist)

  • Building climate-smart agriculture (Mchezaji Axum, Director of Urban Agriculture and Gardening Education)

Session 2, 5-6 PM: Climate Justice and Equitable Global Solutions: Learning from Future Scientists

  • Soilless Agriculture as Equitable Global Solutions (Dylan Mehri, PSM Student)
  • Foods of The Future: Climate-Resilient Crops for Food Insecurity (Shanna White, PSM Student)
  • Natural Climate Solution: Urban Forestry (Ashlyn Pouvaranukoah, PSM Student)
  • Building Climate Resilient and Equitable Urban Water System (Jacob Wynn, PSM Student)
  • Sustainable infrastructure and Gender Impact (Dina Passman, Ph.D. Students)
  • The Archetypes of Economic Development (Midas Hampton, Ph.D. Student)
  • Brainstorming and Q&A session

Session 3, 6-7 PM: UDC’s Sustainability Initiatives: Building Leaders for Sustainable Future

  • Infusing sustainability across curriculum (Dr. Tolessa Deksissa, Director of WRRI+PSM)
  • Terminal Degrees in Sustainability (Dr. Sabine O’Hara, Director of Ph.D. Program)
  • Sustainability Design and community resilience planning (Dr. Anna Franz, Chair of Architecture and Urban Planning)
