In 2019, the GW Annual Chinese Speech Contest entered its 9th year of bridging the cultural gap between China and the United States through people-to-people exchange, the two countries celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic ties.

To commemorate this historic milestone, following the 2019 contest final, CCAS Office of Global Initiatives invited all the contest finalists from 2011-2019, their teachers and guests to attend a dinner reception at the Chinese Embassy to celebrate their language achievements. The reunion not only recognized current and past contestants’ passion for the Chinese culture and language, but also highlighted the speech contest's unique role in facilitating exchanges and strengthening understanding between the two great nations.

One student at a time, the contest continues to uphold its mission of providing the necessary platform for American students to better understand China and its culture through language learning.

The dinner reception was held at the Chinese Embassy (3505 International Pl NW, Washington, DC 20008) on Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.
