Research Highlights

Executive Function Across the Lifespan

Executive functions are those that help regulate and plan goal-directed behavior, notably including processes such as inhibitory control, working memory, and flexibility. Dr. Wallace describes the links between ASD and executive function and how it presents in real-world situations. Main findings of executive function and outcome in autistic people of different age ranges include: executive function is linked to QoL and daily living skills across adulthood, and executive function is complexly related to other qualities such as psychiatric disorders.
