Conference Information

This conference, convened by the Humanitarian Action Initiative (HAI), an academic and research hub housed in the George Washington University’s  Elliott School of International Affairs, will host participants from the U.S. and overseas who are engaged in research and investigation into the localization agenda of development. Our conference is organized into six main themes.

This conference is generously funded by a William and Flora Hewlett Foundation grant.

Important Dates

Call for papers: due Wednesday, October 18 by 5:00pm ET

Decisions will be emailed on November 6, 2023

Deadline for submitting accepted papers to the conference organizers: February 1, 2024

February 22-23, 2024 conference held at the George Washington University (Washington D.C.).


Attending the conference

If you are interested in participating in the conference, please submit this form by 5:00 pm (EST) on Wednesday October 18, 2023. You will be required to submit an abstract of your research paper (200 words), a short biographical note (150 words) and indicate your ability to attend the conference. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered for one member of author teams traveling to Washington D.C.

The conference will be held at the Elliott School of International Affairs (1957, E St NW, Washington, DC 20052) at the George Washington University.
