The GW LA Program utilizes a networked leadership model. All participating departments must adhere to the three key elements of the LA Program: (1) LAs support collaborative learning during regular class meetings, (2) LAs complete comprehensive pedagogy training, (3) and LAs meet with host faculty weekly to plan for class.

Each department that participates in the program has one faculty member who acts as LA Program Coordinator for that department. LA Program Coordinators work with the chair of their respective departments to recruit LAs and pair them with faculty. All decisions about LA hiring, and which courses will be LA-supported, are made at the department level.

The biology, chemistry, and physics departments share core elements of LA training. All LAs complete CPED6100W Pedagogy for Learning Assistants I concurrent to their first semester LA-ing. All LAs and faculty sign the LA Contract each semester. All classes administer the LA Program Evaluation at the end of the semester. Finally, all LAs in science and world languages gather at the start of the semester to revisit our program mission and goals, and gather at the end of the semester (before finals) to celebrate.
