Hello, my name is Tejas Patel. I am majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I am interested in solving problems is ultimately what has driven me to study engineering along with my own interests of wanting to help people medically through engineering various medical equipment such as prosthetics and x-ray machines. Outside of engineering I enjoy playing football and cricket. Through taking this class I have been exposed to engineering software and concepts that I otherwise would not necessarily have in my major had I not taken this class. I learned the basics of vital skills such as how to use Tinker Cad and MATLAB. Having exposure to these software's I feel will make me a more founded and complete engineer. It will also enable me to design more effective engineering solutions because I can see how my solution would run or look like in terms of 3D modeling.

Attending this class gave me information about SEAS organizations to join. I learned about all of the organizations from, the Association of Energy Engineers, to Engineers Without Borders, to the American Association of Civil Engineers and much more orgs at the beginning of each class. I was also informed about the various student activity groups at GW. I also explored the GW Engineering Website and learned more about my program and related organizations like the Biomedical Society Organization.

Taking this SEAS 1001 class has really provided me with a broad understanding of all of engineering. I learned skills such as MATLAB and Tinker Cad which were unfamiliar with me. I got the opportunity to learn how to code a simple circuit which was interesting and got to learn the entrepreneurial qualities of an engineer. I learned the way you present a solution is extremely important and learned about the extreme importance of diversity in engineering. Utilizing these various software's has actually made me more curious and in the future want to design and play with these programs to accomplish more complex tasks, which will help me to become a better engineer in the future. All of these experiences have had a positive impact on me and have gotten me excited to begin my engineering journey.

My major is Biomedical Engineering. The field of Biomedical Engineering involves utilizing engineering concepts along with the understanding of biologic concepts to design medical machines such as pacemakers in the heart of people who have slow heart rates to help pump their heart a normal pace. Biomedical Engineers also are heavily involved in research about the body and its biological processes. The main objective of a biomedical engineer is to improve the lives of humans through medical devices. Biomedical Engineers are responsible for much of the medical equipment we use and see today and are constantly working to either improve existing medical technologies or create new one's. There are also many concentrations of biomedical engineers such biogenetic engineers who want to look into how altering the DNA of an organism can prevent that organism from developing a disease. There are also biochemical engineers who focus on cells and microscopic molecules and how to alter them for the advancement of a human's quality of life. Biomaterials engineers strive to create items that have the ability to be used in medical devices to better the health of humans. There are bioinstrumental engineers who seek to utilize technology to better detect diseases in human's so they can get the treatment they need correctly and quickly. There are clinical engineers who utilize engineering to make healthcare better. These are just a few of the vast concentrations of biomedical engineers.
