The international student arrival process can be daunting, but congratulations—
you’ve made it to GW!
Now that you’ve arrived on campus, what are some places, people, and things that can help ease your transition?
First thing's first:
- Check-in at the International Services Office (ISO) at the Marvin Center so the university knows that you’ve arrived in the U.S. Be sure to bring your passport and I-20 or DS-2019 form with you.
- Check-in at our office, the SEAS Office of Graduate Admissions and Student Services, in the Science and Engineering Hall to receive the name of your faculty/academic advisor and a welcome gift bag.
Your next step is to familiarize yourself with the rest of campus as a current student:
- Academic:
The Gelman Library is the main library on campus and offers writing assistance to all students in the Writing Center. You can schedule an appointment to meet with a writing consultant who will help you strengthen your abilities as a writer. You may find the Gelman Library’s guide for international students helpful. - Practical:
The ISO offers a list of resources for international students ranging from banking needs to health insurance. - Social:
GW’s Center for Student Engagement offers over 100 student organizations that you can join depending on your interests. Joining a student organization is a great way to meet new people and to be part of a GW community in a meaningful way.
Our office will always be a place you can come to with any problems or concerns, whether they are academic, practical, or social. We will always do our best to help you and put you in touch with others who can best assist you.
Good luck as you embark on your SEAS graduate student journey!
