He is interested in board games, aviation, sea shanties, and engineering.
He studies Systems engineering at the school of engineering and applied sciences and is a Navy Midshipman at the GW ROTC Capital battalion.
Systems engineering is the engineering of efficiency, workflows, and management. It covers topics from risk management to statistics. It's one of the most in demand professions and can be applied to most career fields.
Mr. Alksninis has a busy schedule with 19 credit hours his first semester, and morning classes every day. On top of that he is very active in Navy ROTC by participating in early morning PT, aviation club, run club, volunteering work, and is currently Co-president of the war-gaming club.
He also hopes to join the board gaming club, GW trails, and Engineers without boarders where it fits in his schedule.
Automation Tinkercad project
As part of his SEAS 1001 course, he learned how to design and code in Tinkercad.
In this assignment, he demonstrated his willingness to go above and beyond all expectations set for him by doing the incredible, beautiful, advanced task of making the little blue light flash.
Engineering innovation project
In the SEAS 1001 he had to design an engineering solution to a problem that he faced.
He identified a problem that he faces and greatly diminishes his ability to work effectively.
Being a systems engineering major low efficiency is something that could not be tolerated, so he got to work. He needed to find a cost-effective, easy-to-use, and effective solution to the problem of having k-cups and a drip coffee machine.
When you try to put in dissected K-cup the beans will go everywhere so you get terrible coffee!
There's no structure that makes a K-cup so effective. That means it needs to stay in it's shell and the shell needs to be propped into the drip coffee machine.
That leads us to the ultimate engineered device a cheap 3D printable contraption that can be sold as a way to provide a single cup serving of coffee from a drip coffee machine.
Various other things Learned in SEAS 1001
Throughout his time in SEAS 1001 Mr. Alksninis learned about the values of diversity in engineering and how different perspectives are crucial to solving problems.
3D printing was always of interest to Mr. Alksninis. In Tinkercad He made his own tools and got to experience the process of creation from design to execution.
Mr. Alksninis taught himself Matrices in order to do higher level math in MATLAB.
Finally, he set himself up in the professional world by creating a linked in account.
