What is it?
Diversity creates new viewpoints, perspectives, and solutions, which goes hand in hand with equity because this states that everyone has equal chance and opportunity for development and growth. Inclusion creates elements of fairness, respect, belonging, and confidence.
Why is it so important in STEM?
These are all very important in STEM because as engineers we work together in many different environments and need different perspectives to solve problems. The more solutions to the same problem, the better chance of solving that problem. In order to gain multiple solutions, we need many voices to be heard.
