  • Our paper titled "In Vitro and In Vivo Evaluation of 3D Bioprinted Small-diameter Vasculature with Smooth Muscle and Endothelium" has been awarded an IOP Publishing Top Cited Paper Award, which recognizes it as one of the most cited papers published across the entire IOP Publishing journal portfolio from 2020 to 2022.   • In a recent Journal of Biomedical Semantics article “Disclosing Main authors and Organisations collaborations in bioprinting through network maps analysis,” Dr. Zhang and GW are ranked among the most influential authors and institutions, respectively, in the field of 3D bioprinting. Dr. Zhang was ranked 7th in the study’s “List of most influential authors found on this study” (Figure 2 and Table 3), while GW was ranked 10th in the “Top ten institution[s] and number of publications in bioprinting” list (Figure 4). In addition, the names of many of our lab members appear in the study’s “Co-authors network map.” (2020)

  • Dr. Zhang served as Co-Chair of the 2024 Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Annual Conference held in Baltimore from October 23-26. This conference is the most significant event organized by BMES, attracting over 5300 attendees (this year was the second largest one in BMES history), including faculty, students, researchers, federal agencies, and industry professionals from the U.S. and around the world.   • Congratulations, the second edition of our book “ 3D Bioprinting and Nanotechnology in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine” is published online now at Amazon and Elsevier! The first edition of the book has done very well in the market since its publication in 2015, rising to be one of the most used books in Elsevier’s biomedical engineering portfolio. This second edition provides an overview of the exciting emergent technologies—3D/4D bioprinting and nanotechnology—for tissue and organ regeneration applications. (2/2022)

  • Congratulations, Haitao's breakthrough paper titled "In Vitro and In Vivo Evaluation of 3D Bioprinted Small-diameter Vasculature with Smooth Muscle and Endothelium" has finally been accepted by Biofabrication after it was rejected for over 7 times by different journals and evaluated and commented by more than 20 reviewers since it was first submitted in July 2017! In this study, we bioprinted a novel small diameter vasculature which possessed numerous favorable characteristics such as biomimetic endothelium and smooth muscle layers, higher tissue affinity, beneficial perfusability and permeability, excellent vascular remodeling in vivo. It will be a milestone toward eventually fabricating a complicated tissue/organ for clinical transplantation. (8/2019)

  • Dr. Zhang won 2011 John Haddad Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR). John G. Haddad (M.D.), past-president of ASBMR, was a pioneer in studies of vitamin D metabolism in both the laboratory and the clinic. As part of this award, Prof. Zhang will give an invited presentation in the AIMM (Advances in Mineral Metabolism)/ASBMR meeting during April 4-8, 2011, Snowmass, Colorado. (01/2011)
