Robert Brauneis

Co-Director

Robert Brauneis is the Michael J. McKeon Professor of Intellectual Property Law and Co-Director of the Intellectual Property Program at GW Law. He is the co-author of a leading casebook on copyright law and numerous articles on copyright, trademark, and constitutional law. Professor Brauneis is a member of the Managing Board of the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center and a Trustee of the Copyright Society of the USA, and has served as President of the Giles S. Rich American Inn of Court. He served as the inaugural Abraham L. Kaminstein Scholar in Residence at the United States Copyright Office.

Dawn C. Nunziato

Co-Director

Dawn Carla Nunziato is The Pedas Family Endowed Professor of IP and Technology Law at The George Washington University Law School, where she co-directs the Ethical Technology Initiatives and The Global Internet Freedom & Human Rights Project and is an Affiliate of the Institute for Data, Democracy, and Politics. She currently serves as Chair of the TikTok Content Advisory Council. She is an internationally recognized expert in content regulation on the Internet and is the author of the critically acclaimed book Virtual Freedom: Net Neutrality and Free Speech in the Internet Age (Stanford University Press). She has written extensively on issues involving free speech and information privacy on the Internet, and has lectured and taught courses on these subjects around the world, including at Oxford University, the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center, Tsinghua University in Beijing, the University of Palermo in Buenos Aires, the European University Institute in Florence, the University of Freiburg, the Qatar Ministry of Culture, the Organization for Security and Co-Operation in Europe (OSCE) in Vienna, and the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México. She has been an invited presenter at leading law schools and universities, including Emory, University of Chicago, Georgetown, Harvard, Notre Dame, Oxford, University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, Vanderbilt, University of Virginia, Washington University, and Yale. While a law student at the University of Virginia, she served as Articles Development Editor of the Virginia Law Review and was the recipient of the Thomas Marshall Miller Prize, awarded to the outstanding member of the graduating class.

Clare Burgess

Clare is a 2L at GW Law and joined the Reproductive Data Privacy Initiative in the Spring of her first year. She is currently working alongside Ashley on creating a public education guide regarding reproductive data privacy post-Dobbs. Prior to coming to GW Law, she worked as a communications consultant for local governments and agencies. She is extremely interested in data privacy with the increasing globalization of privacy standards as well as broader Internet law and speech. This summer, she is interning with the Federal Communications Commission’s Media Bureau Industry Analysis Division. In her free time, she enjoys cooking new recipes and exploring D.C.’s many coffee shops and restaurants.

Genna Fukuda

Genna is a 2L at GW Law and creator of the Advancing Diversity in Education Initiative. She is also working alongside Clare in partnership with EPIC on creating a public database for federal and state action regarding reproductive data privacy post-Dobbs. Prior to law school, she was a paralegal at a New York law firm where she worked with outside consultants to automate legal processes for the firm. She is extremely interested in the uses and dangers technology can have in creating more equitable outcomes. This summer, she is interning at a firm in New York. In her free time, she enjoys ranking the seating in coffee shops and hosting art nights for her friends.

Nathan Barber

Nathan is a 2L at GW Law and works alongside Genna and Clare on the Reproductive Data Privacy Initiative. They worked together on the “Two Years Post-Dobbs: The Legal Landscape of Reproductive Data Privacy” event and the launch of the Reproductive Data Privacy Database. He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association Quarterly Journal and is interning at Biotechnology Innovation Organization. He enjoys watching movies, hiking, and visiting DC’s various museums.

George Valases

George is a 2L at GW Law and works with Yiting, Madeline, and YouHao for the Deepfakes and Democracy Initiative. George is passionate about the First Amendment, Constitutional Law, and Individual Liberties. His work with the Deepfakes and Democracy Initiative has heavily revolved around assessing the First Amendment implications of various proposals to regulate AI. George is also a member of the GW Journal of Law and Technology.

Elizabeth Moraga

Elizabeth is a 2L at GW Law and works alongside Genna, Andrew, Jada, Leila, and Joshua on the Advancing Diversity in Education Initiative. As a first-generation Latina law student, Elizabeth is passionate about ensuring continued diversity in college and postgraduate education. She is a member of the Business & Finance Law Review, and in her free time enjoys baking, exploring DC, and trying new restaurants!

YouHao Lai

He is a non-resident fellow at the Research Institute for Democracy, Society, and Emerging Technology (DSET) in Taiwan, addressing artificial intelligence and cybersecurity issues. He also serves on the human rights committee of the Taipei Bar Association. Before his doctoral studies, You-Hao worked as an attorney at Cogito Law Office, clerked for the Chief Justice of the Taiwan Constitutional Court, and advised the President of the Judicial Yuan, Taiwan’s highest judicial policy-making organ. He holds LL.M. degrees from National Taiwan University College of Law and Harvard Law School.

Jada Bourne

Jada Bourne is a 2L at GW Law and works alongside Genna, Elizabeth, Leila, Andrew and Joshua on the Advancing Diversity in Education Initiative. As a Research Assistant she worked on the launch of the “How to Discuss Your Race or Ethnicity in College Admissions Applications” Guide. She now helps manage the projects social media outreach sharing research, advancements, and advice for students following the SFFA v. Harvard & UNC decision. In addition to working with the Ethical Tech Initiative, Jada is a member of The George Washington University Law Review and Moot Court Board.

Andrew Bernstein

Andrew is a 2L at GW Law, working alongside Elizabeth, Genna, Jada, Joshua, and Leila on the Advancing Diversity in Education Initiative. He is a graduate of Rider University and a lifelong New Jersey resident with a passion for state and local politics. As a Research Assistant, Andrew is compiling a database of case law in response to Students for Fair Admission (SFFA) v. Harvard & UNC, specifically how SFFA has led to increased legal challenges to DEI programs on college campuses. He is a member of The George Washington Law Review.

Madeline Rosenstein

Madeline Rosenstein is a second-year student at GW Law. She joined the Ethical Tech Initiative as a first-year student volunteer assisting with the Reproductive Data Privacy Initiative and Advancing Diversity in Education Initiative. As a Research Assistant, she has been working on the Deepfakes and Democracy Initiative. She is interested in exploring the legal questions that arise at the intersection of technology with human rights and the environment. Madeline is also on the Equal Justice Foundation’s Executive Board, a member of the Federal Communications Law Journal, and the Moot Court Board.
