Coordinator of Communications

Phi Beta Kappa is the nation’s oldest and most widely known honor society. It celebrates and advocates excellence in the liberal arts and sciences. The Society sponsors activities to advance these studies — the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences — in higher education and in society at large, including a Visiting Scholar program, a Lecture Series, digital and print publications, and more.
The Coordinator of Communications will be responsible for all internal and external digital communications at the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: social media management, e-newsletters, e-fundraising, and video and audio development. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic, and creative. Excellent oral and written communication skills are imperative.

Duties:

  • Research, schedule, and film participants in the Phi Beta Kappa Video Series. Edit and post videos, and create accompanying copy for the video emails.
  • Work in HMTL, CMS, CSS and Adobe Dreamweaver to design and create e-fundraising appeals, e-newsletters, and web content.
  • Maintain and update an e-fundraising schedule. Work with iContact email software to deploy and track e-fundraising appeals.
  • Independently create, edit and post creative, engaging content for social media sites.
  • Coordinate video recordings of Visiting Scholar lectures at a variety of campuses across the country. Edit and post the videos.
  • Create and edit content for our video micro-site.
  • On occasion, work directly with members to solve registration issues and answer questions.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on digital aspects of shared projects.

Requirements:

  • Candidates should have 2-4 years experience working in a non-profit or advocacy environment managing digital communications strategy and content.
  • Professional experience working with social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Tumblr, etc.) to increase engagement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CMS and CSS.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working independently and responsibly to maintain and update programs.
  • Enthusiasm is a must for this position. Customer service experience is helpful. Candidates must be able to establish a positive, professional voice on the various social media platforms.
  • Photo and video editing experience, preferably with Sony Vegas Video Editing software and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Some project management experience preferred.
