The Institute for International Economic Policy (IIEP) was created in 2007 to fill the institutional gap at the Elliott School of International Affairs and focus on high quality, multi-disciplinary, and non-partisan research on policy issues surrounding economic globalization and international development. IIEP was also created to serve as the institutional home to two outstanding master’s programs in the Elliott School of International Affairs: the Master’s in International Economic Policy (MIEP) and the International Development Studies (IDS) programs. Since IIEP’s founding, MIEP, known prior to 2019 as the “International Trade and Investment Policy” (ITIP) program, and IDS have attracted top-tier graduate students from around the world who study issues directly related to IIEP activities.
At its inception, IIEP focused on US-China economic relations, controversies about international economic integration, and poverty and human development. Since then, IIEP’s focus has grown and transformed to take into account the changing global economic environment. This has included signature initiatives on Global Economic Governance, India, and Climate Change and Sustainable Cities.
