DSF Trainings: Quarterly Safety Training and Let’s Talk Privacy! General Privacy Awareness Workshop

Each week we’ll be sharing the upcoming training and professional development opportunities available here at GW.


Wednesday 1/17

FBG Quarterly Safety Training
Join us for this quarter’s safety training, which will focus on Lockout Tagout Red Tag. Lockout Tagout, or LOTO, is the de-energizing and securing of equipment, machinery, or processes so hazardous energy isn’t re-introduced during servicing or repair. This includes closing electrical circuits and valves, neutralizing extreme temperatures, and the process of affixing a label, or tag, that communicates information about what’s being done to the machine or equipment and why it’s important. This training will specifically focus on Red Tag; alerting employees not to operate tagged equipment. In order to ensure that this training is accessible to as many people as possible, participants can choose to attend either the morning or afternoon session.

Let’s Talk Privacy! General Privacy Awareness Workshop
Join us and learn how to be responsible and transparent in the way we collect, maintain, and use Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This workshop will provide you with a better understanding of the essentials of Privacy, including individual responsibility to use PII only for authorized purposes and to protect it from loss.

Monday 1/16

APPA – Leadership Academy
Are you looking to become a more effective leader? Appas course on Facilities management may be for you. This is a 4 level course provides users the skills to change and develop organizations helping to guide and manage the assets of the institution.

Level I Helps your institution achieve sustained superior results by focusing on making individual leaders more effective. The most successful teams and organizations are led and driven by the character, strengths, and talents of their individual members.

Level II Focuses on understanding the dynamics of working together and successful ways to sustain trust which can be used to support successful relationships and team efforts.

In level III Participants develop and strengthen leadership skills while learning basic principles for organizational and managerial effectiveness. Attendees experience a dynamic learning environment utilizing engaging discussion groups, learning games, discovery exercises, synergy, and project collaboration. 

Level IV Prepares you with the organizational skills needed to sit at the table in order to provide excellent learning environments.

The Procurement Services 101 Training is designed to help new and experienced personnel gain a deeper understanding of the procurement process, compliance guidelines, and effective routing processes. In this training, participants will understand the importance of strategic sourcing and vendor management, discover best practices to navigate the procurement process to save time and resources, and learn many more strategies.

During this training, users will learn how to create and set up search parameters for queries on their AiM logins. Adam will also go through building widgets and dashboards from these queries with participants walking away with newfound knowledge.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity for professional and personal development and growth as Dr. Jordan Shelby West offers ways to support and fully respect all members of the GW community who transition across sex and/or gender identities, as well as explaining pronouns and providing language and definitions related to gender, sex, and sexuality. Attendance is highly recommended, and lunch will be provided.
