From the desk of Baxter Goodly: AI@GW Mapping Exercise

Division Of Safety and Operations

Dear DSO Colleagues,

GW is moving forward with shaping a university-wide approach to artificial intelligence, and I want to underscore how important the AI@GW mapping exercise is—both to the institution’s future and to me personally. This effort is designed to help GW understand where and how AI is already being used across the university, and to ensure that our emerging strategy builds on existing strengths while identifying opportunities for growth, coordination, and investment. Meaningful participation from DSO is essential to achieving that goal.

As part of this work, the university has developed a survey to capture a clear and accurate picture of current activities and capabilities. Within DSO, Emily Dieker and Carleton Bennett have volunteered to spearhead the coordination and collection of our inputs. I ask that you be fully responsive to them, cooperative in sharing information, and supportive as they work to assemble a comprehensive DSO perspective. Their role is to help make this process as efficient and effective as possible. Given the need to move quickly, Phase One inputs are due by February 13.

A second phase will follow, offering additional opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to contribute individual perspectives through surveys and focus groups. All collected information will be reviewed and synthesized by cross-university working groups. Thank you for your leadership, engagement, and willingness to contribute. Your participation will play a critical role in ensuring that GW’s AI strategy reflects the full breadth of innovation, operational excellence, and expertise across DSO and the broader university.

All the best,

Baxter
