Inner Speech in Bilingual Aphasia
Aphasia is a language disorder caused by brain damage, affecting reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Most people with aphasia struggle to name things, a symptom called anomia. Many of them report being able to say the word in their mind but not aloud, known as ‘inner speech.’ Inner speech has been frequently studied in people who speak two languages or are bilingual. This study, in collaboration with Dr. Cynthia Core and Dr. Mackenzie Fama, investigates how inner speech works in people who are bilingual and have aphasia.
