UNSEEN
What does “disability” mean to you?
How many blind people have you ever met before?
Do you realize that most of the assumptions we make about blind people are wrong?
Are you surprised by the fact that blind people can be lawyers, musicians, programmers, podcast hosts, photographers…?
Unseen is an interactive role-playing game for people to have an experience through the lens of the visually impaired. Viewers will have an opportunity to learn about blind people, to put down any assumptions or misinformation on the perspective of blindness, and, most importantly, to realize who blind people are and what they are capable of. Through the visual/audio elements, I wish for people no longer to be ignorant about blind people and no longer to be afraid of disabilities. As able-bodied people, we invent technologies and services to help us achieve what we can’t do alone. There is always something we can’t do, at times or forever, like disabled people. In some ways, we are the same.
Disability is not distant from our life. If that’s how you feel, that means our society is not accessible enough. We have all benefited from accessible design, such as curbside services, emails, etc. Unseen presents the need for accessible design, explains the value of disabled people as equal contributors to society, and narrows the gap between sighted and blind people caused by a lack of awareness.
We have all benefited from accessible design, such as curbside services, emails, etc.
