Food You Should Avoid Eating in Your Office Lunch

No matter how busy your day gets, it is important to take some time for lunch. This will sustain and give you the energy needed to get through the rest of the workday. However, there are certain unspoken rules for lunch at the office.

In a shared workspace, it becomes very difficult to hide anything, so being considerate of others is a needed skill. You need to consider other people when deciding what to eat so as not to make your coworkers uncomfortable.

Eggs

If eggs are a personal favorite, it is okay to eat them everywhere but at the office. Eggs smell bad, and no one will want to be around you even after lunch is finished. If the eggs are reheated, the smell will spread even further and cause a lot of gagging and discomfort for your coworkers.

There are many ways of including eggs in an office lunch program that works for everyone. CaterCow understands that food decisions should be easy, so they do the hard task of coming up with pre-approved customized menus for you. With so many options available, you can rest assured that the meals ordered will be a hit and keep everyone coming back for more.

Fish

Packed with many nutrients and flavors, fish is a great choice for lunch. In a shared office space, this can quickly cause many issues. Even when cooked with spices and other ingredients, fish has a distinctive odor that can affect someone’s concentration and make it impossible to focus.

Reheating your fish lunch in the office microwave is very risky as the smell will go everywhere. It can be so overpowering that people need to leave the office to breathe properly. This workflow disruption negatively affects everyone’s productivity.

Chips

A light lunch is sometimes the way to go, and what’s better than a bag of chips? This can be made much better with a side of guacamole or your favorite sauce. However, you’re bound to make loud crunching noises while chewing, which can be quite distracting for everyone else. Hearing you enjoying the chips can also be incredibly tempting for others to stop working and do the same.

Eating chips also tends to be a very messy affair where you’re likely to get crumbs spreading everywhere. It is not worth all the hassle if you can find an alternative.

Chicken

Like many people, you may be tempted to have takeout for lunch on a busy day. While this is a good option, bringing your fried chicken into the office may not be such a good idea. It has a very distinct smell that will reach all corners of the office and might be inconsiderate to others who are not eating. It is also quite hard to get anything done when you’re salivating from the scent of fried chicken.

It is really difficult to get rid of the smell even when you’re done. The boxes with bones you throw out will still be very pungent and make working in the office almost unbearable.

Pasta

If you had a big dinner and have lots of leftovers, carrying them for lunch is the next logical step. However, there’s no way of eating pasta without making a mess, and that’s the last thing you need during an office lunch. Whether you’re eating at your desk or not, you’ll get sauce all over yourself and the surrounding area. The slurping sounds that come with eating pasta will also be quite distracting to anyone who is still working.

Many pasta recipes use a lot of garlic which makes them taste amazing. However, this will make the whole office reek of garlic once you’ve reheated the food for lunch which is not ideal.
