Cynthia S. Dowd, PhD

Dr. Dowd is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The Dowd lab uses synthetic organic chemistry to gain insight into difficult biological problems.  Classical and modern synthetic chemistries are combined with evaluation of our molecules against specific biochemical targets and intact pathogenic organisms.  Techniques include synthetic organic chemistry, molecular docking and structure-guided ligand design, and medicinal chemistry principles of drug design.  Students learn skills in both the chemical and biological sciences, preparing them well for careers in academia or industry.
