1) Research assistant in neuropsychology with the renowned Framingham Heart Study. Our offices are located in Framingham, MA but we are part of the departments of Anatomy & Neurobiology and Epidemiology at Boston University Schools of Medicine and Public Health. This multi-faceted position requires someone who is mature, independent, self-initiating, and comfortable working in an unstructured, dynamic environment with little supervision. The primary responsibility will be testing subjects with ages ranging from 25-100+. Testing will take place primarily in clinic, however, research assistants are expected to make home visits as well. Applicants will assist with a new project that requires repeated testing of assigned participants over the course of a year. The research assistant will be responsible for the well-being of their participants during the one year they are enrolled in this study. This includes, but is not limited to, going to the person’s home to conduct neuropsychological testing, accompanying the participant to and from MRI/PET imaging appointments, and spending quality time with the participant to ensure they are comfortable throughout the testing period. Research assistants will additionally score neuropsychological test responses, enter and clean data, prepare case reports for diagnostic meetings and conduct literature searches. Additionally, applicants are expected to assist with a wide range of research projects. These include studies about Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and neuropathology, among others. Travel throughout New England and other states is required. Minimum requirements include a bachelor’s degree in psychology or related field, some experience in research, a willingness to work non-traditional hours and a car. This multi-faceted position requires someone who is mature, independent, self-initiating, and comfortable working in an unstructured, non-traditional, dynamically evolving research environment with little supervision. In order to be considered, applicants must have clinical research experience with direct patient/participant interaction and some evidence of management capabilities. Familiarity with neuropsychology and interest in cognitive aging, dementia/Alzheimer’s disease and brain imaging is also required. The applicant should be comfortable managing teams, have strong written/verbal communication skills and a willingness to work non- traditional hours.

Research responsibilities will include administering neuropsychology tests to participants age 25-100+, preparing case reports for dementia diagnostic meetings and conducting literature searches, data entry and cleaning, and managing numerous project details with a focus on ensuring data integrity and accuracy. Example of some project topics are Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), technology integration into research methods, and neuropathology, with more underway and in the pipeline. Management responsibilities include helping to supervise a team of ~10 research assistants, delegating work appropriately, communicating research goals, evaluating performance, and running the summer internship program.

Dr. Gail S. Kerr, Chief of Rheumatology at the Veteran Affairs Medical Center and Howard University, is looking for clinical research coordinators to begin in June 2018. Coordinators will manage multiple clinical research studies (database and clinical trial) relating to the treatment of patients with a wide array of rheumatic diseases.

Responsibilities include patient recruitment & follow-up, communication with local IRB and sponsors, data gathering & entry, handling of tissue samples, budgeting, organizing annual conference, and other research-related tasks as needed.

You will have the opportunity to participate in weekly seminars for residents and fellows and work alongside doctors at both facilities. This position is ideal for recent graduates interested in having frequent patient interaction, gaining experience in a healthcare setting, gaining experience in the business of research, and shadowing doctors prior to medical or graduate school.

A full-time research assistant (lab manager) is sought for the labs of Dr. Pearl Chiu, Dr. Brooks King-Casas, and Dr. Stephen LaConte at the Virginia Tech Carilion Research Institute (http://research.vtc.vt.edu). Projects in the labs combine methods from experimental and clinical psychology, neuroscience, and behavioral economics with functional neuroimaging to investigate decision-making in healthy and clinical populations (focusing on adults with mood, anxiety, personality, or substance-use disorders, and at-risk youth). The research assistant will be responsible for recruiting and assessing research participants, implementing all aspects of study protocols, and maintaining positive communication with research participants and collaborators. Data collection involves various modalities including: behavior, fMRI, clinical interviews, genetic samples. Additional duties include managing participant databases, organizing project funds, and preparing and tracking IRB protocols. The research assistant is an essential member of the group and will be generally responsible for having overall knowledge of all lab projects and managing day-to-day logistics of ongoing lab projects. Training will be provided for all aspects of the position. For motivated individuals, there are many opportunities to be involved with data analysis. This is an excellent position for candidates interested in graduate school in cognitive or clinical psychology, neuroscience, and related fields. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to make a two-year commitment.

Minimum requirements include: 1) BA/BS in psychology, biology, engineering, or related field; 2) two years of research experience; 3) ability to work both independently and as part of a team; 4) demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail; 5) demonstrated ability and desire to succeed in a fast-paced research environment with multiple concurrent duties; 6) excellent written and oral communication skills; 7) proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint or equivalent.

Other information: MA/MS candidates with clinical (clinical psychology, psychiatry) training will be considered; salary will be commensurate with experience. Candidates with data analysis and/or computer programming experience will be considered favorably.
