Former Psychology Professor Richard Walk remembered fondly at Department Luncheon

GW professor Richard Walk was an incredible teacher and mentor as well as valuable researcher whose work with the visual cliff still graces developmental textbooks.  His impact was celebrated around the lunch table recently as some of his graduate and undergraduate students, as well as donors to the Walk Fund and current faculty gathered.  Prof. John Philbeck, current Chair of the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, provided an update on the department – indicating that his lab is where the visual cliff was in Walk’s days! Also present was Maria Cimporescu, recent recipient of a Walk Fund award to support her doctoral research.

Perhaps most exciting was the chance to renew connections:  Elyse Lehman, Evans Mandes, Sarah Friedman, Lorraine McCall and Peg Barratt all had taken classes from Prof. Walk – and talked about his impact.  Current faculty Paul Poppen and Cindy Rohrbeck recalled Prof. Walk as a senior colleague.  Greeting were delivered from eight additional individuals who remembered Prof. Walk. The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences is deeply appreciative of these donors who help carry forward the spirit of Prof. Walk.
