January 2021: A Month to Remember

Many of us thought that 2021 was going to be an amazing redemption to the events we endured last year. After this first month we have seen some interesting events unfold that will forever go down in our nations history.

On January 6, 2021 Trump supporters stormed the capitol to protest Trump’s loss to President Joe Biden. In addition to pretesting Trump’s loss, various protesters held KKK flags, wore anti-Semitic shirts and spewed hate speech throughout DC. The riots resulted in 5 deaths and a multitude of injuries. Just 2 weeks after this event Joe Biden was inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States with Kamala Harris As his Vice President, the first female and the first person of color to hold this title.

Within his first week in office President Biden signed over 30 executive orders ranging from reversing policy that was initiated during Trump’s presidency to adjusting the way in which our nation is responding to the pandemic.

While 2021 may not have gotten off to the start that we wanted for many it has already began to feel like a breathe of fresh air.
