Universidad del Rosario was founded in 1653 by Fray Cristobal de Torres in Bogotá. Due to its historical significance, it is known as "the Cradle of the Republic". The contemporary university is based on secular ideas and remains very influential in Colombian culture and public life, with at least 28 of Colombia's Presidents counting as alumni.
The George Washington University Peace Studies Program encourages its students to unpack the multiple meanings of peace, the relationship between peace and conflict and the role of peace on local and global levels. Students learn about peace in its philosophical and religious dimensions, as an important aspect of international affairs and as a vital part of social, economic and environmental justice.
The George Washington University Debate & Literary Society was founded on March 6, 1822, to assist our members in "improving ourselves in knowledge, eloquence and every accomplishment by which we may be the better prepared for any station in life." Almost 200 years later our society carries on this proud tradition as a co-curricular research and communications organization emphasizing civic debate as a tool for engagement, service, and publication.
