English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

Students required to take EAP must do so in the summer preceding enrollment in the graduate program or during their first semester of study. Those who fail EAP must retake the course.  Failing EAP twice may result in academic dismissal. It is strongly advised that students take no more than 9 credits, including EAP, in their first semester.  If your curriculum requires 9 credits in the first semester, then your students should take EAP in the preceding summer. You may need to remind students that EAP credits do not count toward degree requirements; this should also display very clearly in the student's DegreeMap record.
