Employment

The U.S. Department of Labor provides an overview of how autism may affect one's employment options, with resources available for employers, service providers, policy-makers, and youth. The Interagency Autism Coordination Committee is a federal agency that focuses on coordinating policy and efforts related to ASD, and the Employment page provides many resources such as programs, toolkits/guides, reports, and research.

It is important to remember that the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) protects people with disabilities from discrimination in all aspects of life, including with jobs. Reviewing the fact sheet can help you better understand your rights. The Job Accommodation Network can help you find accommodation options and ideas.

Career coaching may be helpful to help navigate the process of searching for, attaining, and maintaining a job. Integrate Advisors is an organization that trains employers on hiring and retaining people on the spectrum while offering advising services for potential candidates. Neurodiversity in the Workplace (NITW) also provides career support and partner with inclusive employers to reduce the barriers to employment that neurodivergent people may face.

There are a number of job boards specifically for people with disabilities, such as Ability Jobs, Hire Autism, NITW, and the AANE Employment Bulletin.
