“Defeating Radical Islamic Terrorism”: A Discussion with General Pervez Musharraf, former President of Pakistan

Please join us as the National Churchill Library and Center welcomes General Pervez Musharraf for a discussion about his experiences as President in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks; his views on current US foreign, immigration, and antiterrorism policy; and Winston Churchill's legacy in Pakistan and India.

General Musharraf was President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan from 2001-2008.  He came to power following a military coup against the civilian government, and played a key and controversial role in the American war against the Taliban and al-Qaeda. He also presided over a partial liberalization of Pakistani culture, and earned the ire of fundamentalist Islamic leaders.

His autobiography, In the Line of Fire: A Memoir was published in 2007.  Under threat of imprisonment in Pakistan, he currently lives in Dubai.
