Please join us as the National Churchill Library and Center welcomes General Pervez Musharraf for a discussion about his experiences as President in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks; his views on current US foreign, immigration, and antiterrorism policy; and Winston Churchill's legacy in Pakistan and India.

General Musharraf was President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan from 2001-2008.  He came to power following a military coup against the civilian government, and played a key and controversial role in the American war against the Taliban and al-Qaeda. He also presided over a partial liberalization of Pakistani culture, and earned the ire of fundamentalist Islamic leaders.

His autobiography, In the Line of Fire: A Memoir was published in 2007.  Under threat of imprisonment in Pakistan, he currently lives in Dubai.

Screen Shot 2017-01-18 at 3.22.17 PM_1Join the GWU Humanitarian Mapping Society, and the Missing Maps Project for a mapathon, helping to map areas where humanitarian organizations are trying to meet the needs of vulnerable populations.

Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally 'missing' from any map and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. Missing Maps is an open, collaborative project who's goal is to map the most vulnerable places in the developing world, in order that international and local NGOs and individuals can use the maps and data to better respond to crises affecting the areas.

Mapping beings at 6pm, and training for newcomers will also be offered at this time. Food/drinks will be available mid-way through the event.

Arrive early to check in at the front desk of the library, and please make sure to bring your laptop to the event!

GW Knowledge in Action Career Internship Fund
Summer 2017 Student Applications Accepted April 1-15

Students who will be interning in unpaid internships this summer are encouraged to apply for the Knowledge in Action Career Internship Fund (KACIF) program. KACIF supports GW students in pursuing high-quality, necessarily unpaid internships that foster their career exploration and enhance their academic program, while reducing the financial challenges associated with necessarily-unpaid internships.

Facilitated by the university's Career Services Council and funded through the generous support of alumni, parents and members of the Board of Trustees, KACIF provides grants ranging up to $3,000 to GW undergraduate and graduate students pursuing internships that are necessarily unpaid.

Summer 2017 Applications accepted April 1—April 15, 2017

Interested students can go to the KACIF website to review more information, including eligibility requirements and application instructions.
