How do you build on someone else's research? How do you find the research they used? Chase down those citations like a pro with tips from librarian Tolonda Henderson.This is part of the Lit Review Boot Camps happening on Martin Luther King's birthday and Presidents' Day. Attendees are invited to stick around for sessions on Citation Management, Staying Current in One's Field, and Searching Beyond Gelman happening from 9:30-noon.

Attention students who began programs this spring: Your Plan of Study is due March 16th.
The Plan of Study outlines the degree requirements for each Elliott School graduate program. This is an evolving document, and we expect you to make changes and updates to your plan as you progress through your program. But you should fill out the plan of study completely with your best guess of the classes you intend to take and the semesters in which you will take them.
The Process
Locate your program’s plan of study on the Elliott School website under Forms & Applications.
Using blue or black ink, or typing directly into the form (save a copy to your desktop first), enter complete course information and the semester you intend to complete each course on the form in the appropriate space.
Submit your form to your program director for review. If you plan to meet with your program director to discuss your plan, we strongly encourage doing this well in advance of the March 16 deadline.
Deliver your completed plan of study, signed by your Program Director, to the Office of Academic Advising and Student Services (1957 E Street NW, Suite 302). You do not need an appointment to submit your plan of study (you are of course welcome to schedule an appointment with your academic advisor if you have questions). You can also email your Plan of Study to advising@gwu.edu or fax it to 202-994-9537.
Your plan of study will be reviewed by your Academic Advisor. Once reviewed, you will receive an electronic copy of your plan of study. This process can take up to 3 weeks. Therefore, we encourage you to complete your plan of study and submit it to Academic Advising in advance of the deadline. All plans received on or before the March 16 deadline will be returned to students before Fall 2015 registration begins.
Failure to submit a completed plan of study, signed by your Program Director, by March 16th will result in an administrative hold on your account which will prevent you from registering for Fall 2015 classes. Forms received after the deadline are subject to this hold. If the plan is received late, we will do our best to remove the hold as soon as possible, but this will not happen immediately.

Doug Strub is a second year M.A. candidate in the International Affairs program at the The George Washington University, where he is focusing his studies on East Asia and U.S.-China relations. He recently returned from spending seven months in China, during which he participated in an intensive language program during the summer and spent the fall semester at Fudan University in Shanghai studying the politics and economy of China. During his time in Shanghai he also worked at the China Economic Review as both an editorial intern and as a contributing author. This experience allowed him much greater insight into the finer details of China’s economy, as he was often researching and writing about topics such as abnormal fluctuations in highway freight, causes of regional variations in labor strikes, local consequences of unregulated industrialization, and domestic perceptions of economic trends such as foreign direct investment, financial liberalization, and expanding special economic zones.
As an undergraduate at California State University, Chico, Doug taught a United Nations simulation course and led the university’s Model United Nations team to earn the highest awards at both the regional conference in Seattle and the national conference in NYC. He was also president of the Students for Diplomatic Solutions club, a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and worked for two years as an Instructional Student Assistant. Prior to his return to higher education Doug spent five years in Los Angeles working as an audio engineer and Pro Tools editor, during which time he earned multiple gold records for his work on projects such as the Steve Miller Band, Justin Timberlake, and Godsmack.
Pre-registration for the Elliott School language exams will be open February 9-13. Students wishing to take the language exams in Spring 2015 must pre-register in order to be eligible to take the exams. Students wishing to take the Arabic exams should not pre-register but should email mesp@gwu.edu for their exam dates.
The exams will take place in April. This does not apply to Arabic. More information regarding registration will be sent via email on February 9 to all Elliott School students.
