During the 1999-2000 academic year Nikolai Chpanov was a visiting research professor at The George Washington University, affiliated with the Research Program in Social and Organizational Learning. His stay in the USA was supported by the Junior Faculty Development Program, which is funded by the U.S.Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is administered by the American Council of Teachers of Russian. His mentor at GW was Professor William Wiglicki.

Nikolai Chpanov graduated from the Kurgan State Pedagogical Institute and works with the faculty of the Chemistry and Biology programs. He did post graduate work in The Kurgan Pedagogical Institute, including working for the Department of Human Physiology from 1989 to 1992. He acquired a Ph.D. in Biology from the Siberian Medical University in Tomsk in 1993.
