During the 1996-1997 academic year, Enver Safarzade was a visiting research professor at The George Washington University, affiliated with the Research Program in Social and Organizational Learning. His stay in the USA was supported by the Regional Scholars Exchange Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. His mentor at GW was Professor Martha Rashid.Enver Safarzade is currently a senior lecturer in the Department of Economy and Management at the Western University in Baku, Azerbaijan. His primary area of interest was the ways of reforming educational systems during transitional periods.

Mr. Safarzade graduated from Azerbaijan State University in 1981 with a geography teaching degree. His major fields of study are problems of the environment, economics and social geography. From 1991 until 1992 he was the Academic Secretary of the Interdepartamental Council on Nature Protection in Baku. Between 1992 and 1994 he headed the Laboratory on Ecological Problems in Baku. Since 1994 he has been with the Department of Economy and Management at the Western University.
